Both the Dean of the Faculty of Information Technology, Dr. Qassem Al-Radaideh, and the Deputy Dean, Dr. Imad Al-Shawagfeh, participated in the field scientific visit organized by the Accreditation and Quality Assurance Commission to the Aqaba Digital Hub. The participation was part of a delegation that included deans of information technology colleges and representatives from Jordanian universities.
The visit began with an official meeting held at Aqaba University of Technology, where the university president, Dr. Mohammad Hassan Al-Washah, welcomed the delegation members and guests. The meeting with the Deputy Chairman of the Authority, Dr. Bani Mohammed, included important discussions about the required actions from universities within the plan to develop information technology programs, enhancing practical training opportunities for students in partnership with the public and private sectors, in addition to emphasizing the importance of students obtaining micro-credentials, and the necessity for faculty members in the information technology sector to acquire professional certifications to keep pace with rapid technological advancements.
The delegation also conducted a field tour in the Aqaba Digital City to review the technical infrastructure facilities and available digital services, in addition to learning about the most prominent pioneering projects supporting the national digital transformation journey. The city's team also presented technical demonstrations covering the mechanisms for operating digital platforms and the opportunities that Jordanian universities can benefit from in the fields of education and scientific research.
The Aqaba Digital City project, inaugurated by Crown Prince Al Hussein this year, is a pioneering national initiative and is considered the largest data center in Jordan with advanced operational capabilities that support cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and cloud computing services. It also serves as a training center for outstanding university students in collaboration with partners. The center is also a hub for regional digital connectivity, linking Jordan to the three continents thru global submarine cables in Aqaba.
The center has Tier-III certified infrastructure, which is a model for security, continuity, and hosting the state's vital services. The visit is important to closely understand the progress and future of technology and digital transformation in Jordan.
