Yarmouk University continues its upward trajectory in several international academic rankings. After its recent advancement by two categories last week on the QS World University Rankings, reaching the (851-900) category, it maintained its position for the second consecutive year as the third-ranked university among Jordanian universities in the U.S. News Best Global Universities ranking. News, 93 places globally, and 23 places in Asia, clearly indicating an increase in its research output, thereby enhancing its reputation on the international academic map, which embodies its status as one of the leading institutions in the Jordanian and Arab higher education sector.
The results of this ranking witnessed, for the first time, the classification of the Computer Science and Engineering majors at Yarmouk University within the U.S. News rankings. News by specialization, reflecting the qualitative advancement in academic programs related to technology and engineering at the university level.
The university president, Dr. Islam Massad, stated that the importance of this ranking lies in providing a comprehensive picture of the impact of universities on a global level, in terms of scientific production and publication. He emphasized that the university's achievements in this ranking and other rankings would not have been possible without the continuous efforts of the faculty members, students, researchers, and university partners.
He pointed out the decision made by the Council of Deans last year, and its approval of the scientific publication incentives guidelines at the university, which were adopted as part of Yarmouk University's efforts to enhance its reputation and improve its performance in various global rankings. These guidelines have contributed to elevating the quality of scientific research outputs at the university level and incentivizing researchers by offering rewards for publishing in distinguished international journals, publishing books with global publishing houses, and obtaining patents.
Massad emphasized the University of Yarmouk's continuous commitment to academic excellence and the deepening of concepts and tools of innovation and research and academic entrepreneurship in accordance with its strategic plan.
It is worth mentioning that this ranking was launched for the best global universities in 2014, and now includes more than 2,500 educational institutions worldwide. It relies on 13 indicators that measure research performance and academic reputation at both global and regional levels, including research output, international collaboration, the number of highly cited research papers, and global research reputation.
As the Dean of the Faculty of Information Technology and Computer Science pointed out, the Computer Science program's ranking by U.S. News is an important achievement that reflects the quality of education and scientific research in this field, and the ranking contributes to enhancing the program's reputation academically and globally, attracting outstanding students and the best teaching talents. It also opens wider horizons for graduates in the job market and increases opportunities for research and technical partnerships with prestigious international entities.
